Vince Lombardi Memorial Center at Fordham University New Student Athletic Center di Domenico + Partners was retained by Fordham University to plan and design a new student fitness center as part of the Vince T. Lombardi Memorial Athletic Center on the University's Rose Hill campus in the Bronx. The new facility expanded the existing low-ceiling facility to create a new vaulted fitness center for Fordham University students and alumni. The existing 1970's facility was modernized utilizing state-of-the-art systems and athletic equipment, traditional weight-training machines, and a new cardio theatre. Sustainable design features were integrated including high-efficiency lighting and mechanical systems, and the use of recycled materials and finishes. By taking advantage of its prominent central location, dD+P's design approach to create a lively and open fitness environment was realized as a significant new amenity and campus-wide gathering place.
