Newark Broad Street Station Preservation
The rehabilitation of this historic railroad facility includes the inclusion of a new high level platform, the raising and lengthening of the existing canopies, two new elevators, new stairs and ramps. The Scope of Work also includes the interior restoration of the building's historic public spaces and pedestrian subway.

As a follow-up to the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) continuing review of the HLP, accessibility improvements and all issues related to the SHPO comments will be reviewed. As the design is developed and modifications to the existing fabric and new structures on the proposed island platform are explored, the Design Team will respond to preliminary comments made by SHPO.

The Design Team will focus on developing drawings that sensitively address the historic fabric in accordance with accepted SHPO procedures.

Prompt approval of DCA is an importan aspect of the project. Prior to complete document preparation a submission will be made to DCA. This will enable the Team to work with NJ Transit to balance the expectations (sometimes conflicting) between DCA and SHPO and to keep the project moving ahead.
