Restoration of the Historic 125th
Street / Harlem Station
The MTA Metro-North Harlem-125th Street Station is located along Park Avenue beneath the steel viaduct between 125th and 126th streets in Manhattan. The station was designed by architect Morgan O'Brien in 1896 and opened a year later on October 19, 1897. The Classical Revival styled station building houses a passenger waiting room, ticketing office, retail and support spaces.

The design team's objective was to restore the original station elements to their once elegant condition. Modifications to the interior configuration were made in a manner consistent with the building's original design intent. New elements were designed to be contemporary, but architecturally sympathetic to the original station building elements.

The station building was reopened to the public on Saturday, December 18, 1999. The site and building once again have the civic presence of an urban rail station that serves as a point of departure and entry to the spirited and revitalized Harlem community.
