Security Design
Atlantic Avenue Terminal Service and Police Facilities
The Atlantic Avenue Terminal facility is comprised of two areas: the Main Police Facility and the Station Support Welfare Facility. The Police Facility contains a reception area, personnel offices, a holding facility and a medical facility.

Provisions for safety and security were key parts of the program and design of the entire Terminal facility-- making it possible to design space for the Transport, Car Appearance Maintenance (CAMS) and Engineering groups in close vicinity to the Police Facility. In addition to the usual design initiatives dealing with materials and instrumentation, the firm was able to use safety design principles in the planning and programming stage of other project. Based on the clients and users assessment of vulnerability and privacy the program provided the latter group with shared space for common use areas, like restrooms and the cafeteria. The area also provides space for the complex utilities system, including mechanical ventilation. The total combined floor space of this portion of the facility is 82,000 SF.

The roughly 18,000 SF of remaining facility space is occupied by the Station Support Welfare Facility and the Ticketing Concourse. While the program for the Welfare Support Facility is programatically straight forward, providing rooms for various station maintenance needs.
