Metro-North Police & Maintenance Facility
125th Street / Harlem Station |

 |
The historic 125th Street Harlem Station was completed in 1897. The original Morgan O'Brien design provided comfort and elegance to the traveling public. The steady increase in commuters, train traffic and the passing of time, lead to the station's leaky viaduct and eventual unsightliness. It became apparent that the rehabilitation of the station was essential for safety, aesthetic and historic reasons.
The total scope for architectural improvements was bid at $22 million. An MTA Police Facility is located in the station, positioned strategically adjacent to the entry off 125th Street. The facility includes offices, holding areas, locker rooms and other support spaces.
The project also involved the design and construction of a temporary Police Facility for the four year duration of construction. The fast track construction facility was assembled from three modular trailer units. These modular trailers were upgraded to maintain security and design standards.
The temporary facility ameliorated concerns for passenger and pedestrian safety during the ongoing construction. The design and placement of the station provided the police with unobstructed views to the street, establishing a safety perimeter, further enhanced by surveillance cameras. |
