MTA Security Vulnerability & Egress Study
System-Wide Security Planning and Design |
 |
Post-September 11, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and its affiliated agencies including the New York City Transit Authority, the Metro-North Railroad, the Long Island Rail Road and the Bridges and Tunnels Authority have engaged in a system-wide security risk assessment intended to identify and "effectively reduce future disaster damages, public expenditure, private losses and the City of New York's vulnerability to various hazards including man-made hazards, such as explosions and fire."
di Domenico + Partners has teamed with various MTA consultants to implement the short-term solutions and long-term goals resulting from this study in ongoing and upcoming facility and station design projects. All vulnerability assessment results and mitigation strategy recommendations received from the MTA and its hired consultants will be integrated into the architectural program designed for affected stations.
New security measures affecting physical station elements such as CCTV and communications systems, electrical systems, HVAC and exposed ventilation systems, lighting, landscaping, entry/egress control (including fare arrays, gates, turnstiles and control areas) will be coordinated with established MTA Station Planning and Design Guidelines. Operational space will be provided for the implementation of new security procedures affecting available personnel, station communications, emergency response preparedness and fire/life safety hazard egress. |
