Swiss Bank Open Space Master Plan
The firm developed the 11.3 acre Master Plan for the office campus of the Swiss Bank in Stamford, Connecticut. The design features a 3-1/2 acre green park layered with exterior rooms surrounded by shade and flowering trees. Design for a secure environment was an important factor. Landscape elements, such as street furniture, bollards and trees were sensitively designed and placed to prevent access to building locations that may be vulnerable to assault. The entry pavilion is the only portion of the campus accessed by vehicle. Upon clearing security, employees and guests proceed to the campus buildings along monitored paths. A lush landscape buffer with playful retail kiosks serve to keep vehicular access far from the buildings, with the exception of the entry pavilion.

A forty foot wide serpentine pedestrian way runs along the eastern edge of campus park carrying people from downtown Stamford to the north to a new transportation center to the south. The western edge of this walkway is contained with carving granite seatwalls and perennial beds. The intersection of the serpentine walk with a 90 x 100 vehicular entry court and reflective pool create a central node of activity at the building's main entrance. The facility is wrapped with double and single alleys of street trees underplanted with lawn and groundcover planting.

A balance of sensitive design and understanding of security needs enabled the firm to design a corporate landscape that maintained the image of Swiss Bank without compromising the real need for effective security.
