Architectural Design
di Domenico + Partners provided final designs for three new buildings at Croton-Harmon Yards facility that meet Metro-North Railroad's range of functional needs at this site, as well as applicable state and national safety codes. The buildings house the communications, maintenance of way (MOW), and material distribution departments. The result are highly efficient concepts that provide functional and flexible spaces for present and future needs while integrating the various architectural styles and building types which are present at the site. The design criteria developed for these projects was based on a thorough understanding of project master plans, operational procedures and the activities to occur on the site and within the buildings.

dD+P's approach at the Croton Harmon site is to establish a "kit-of-parts" approach with common architectural elements that are consistent with Metro-North goals and the site's master plan that can be applied where appropriate. By using a "kit-of-parts", various components can be fabricated and assembled off site and erected more rapidly at the site. The development and use of cost effective, industrial architectural treatments and features such as large bays of translucent wall panels and expanses of traditional corrugated metal panels can be integrated into the building designs to meet all the goals for the project while helping to establish a unified architectural theme for the entire site without adding additional cost.

dD+P also developed the buildings to integrate into the landscape. The design goal organized the man-made landscape, in this case a highly industrial 100-acre site, in harmony with the natural environment and surrounding residential areas. dD+P is providing orientation within the site, a buffer for the facility's appearance from surrounding residential areas, and enhancements to the planned bike path on northwest edge of property.
