Trenton Rail Complex and Intermodal Plaza
Architecture and Landscape Design
di Domenico + Partners is the architect leading the consultant team for the New Trenton Rail Complex and Intermodal Plaza. The new Complex and Plaza has three goals: to improve circulation within the station; improve comfort for commuters; and turn the station into a civic landmark worthy of the State capital. dD+P is leading the design effort for both the station building and plaza. The architectural intent of the station design to create a completely accessible, modern transportation hub fully integrated into its surrounding community is echoed in the landscaping of its surrounding plaza area.

When complete, the grand, new two-story rail complex will include an additional 27,000 square feet including larger waiting areas, new retail spaces, accessible restrooms and a new plaza that will facilitate pedestrian flow to bus and light rail connections.

The new Trenton Complex design will utilize sustainable materials, provide civic works of arts in transit, and with a renewed focus to downtown Trenton, become a major capital city facility. At more than twice the size of the current facility, the expanded retail space and modern amenities will become a key component for additional economic redevelopment activity in the surrounding community and for Trenton at large. The NJ Transit system is a major reason New Jersey's economy is among the strongest in the nation — the new Trenton Complex will reinforce Trenton's status as a major transportation hub, and will enhance the transit system and state of New Jersey.
