Rehabilitation of Ten Stations and Line Structure on the White Plains Road Line
di Domenico + Partners is providing architectural services for a new station at Gun Hill Road and design for the rehabilitation of eight additional stations on the White Plains Road Line. As part of the 2000-2004 Capital Improvements Program, the architectural scope includes new station mezzanines, public areas and operations spaces. In addition, canopies, windscreens, lighting and progressive ADA elements will be incorporated into all stations.

The design seeks to establish a kit-of-parts for architectural elements common to all stations. New architectural elements have been designed to provide visual continuity with the original system. At Gun Hill Road, a new station house will express the bolder character of contemporary system goals. This station house will be a prominent focal point for the surrounding community. A large transparent entry will frame the public entry zone. At night the illuminated space will become a beacon centering the community.

A program of Arts-for-transit will be developed in the mezzanines and along the platforms.
