Co-op City Greenways – Open Space Master Plan Located at the center and south end of Co-op city the Greenways are surrounded by mid-and high-rise residential buildings, two schools and smaller pockets of green space and parks. The Greenways have the potential to be a central gathering place for the heart of the community. All aspects of the Greenways - physical, environmental, social and historic - point to significant design and technical challenges. Issues regarding use, sustainability, storm water management, community participation and safety will be approached with sensitivity and vision. Creative solutions to those issues will be discussed, designed and incorporated into a plan that engages the community. The design of the Greenways will also be part of RiverBay's larger vision of providing green space for the residents of Co-op City - places to live and play within a safe community environment. Balanced thinking, integrating the needs of the community with sound sustainable landscape design, will be the heart of the project.
