Louis Valentino Jr. Park/Pier 39 The design of the Coffey Street Recreational Pier (Louis Valentino Jr. Park) draws on the rich history of the city's working waterfront and recreation piers. The project features a public recreational pier and design guidelines for private development. The public park is crowned by a rebuilt pier. The pier allows views north to the towers of lower Manhattan and south to lower New York Bay. Due to its unique location, a panoramic view of the bay, the Brooklyn waterfront and the Manhattan skyline serve as a backdrop to the park. The project demonstrates the potential for public open space improvement through a productive collaboration of the public and private sector.
