Ribbon Cutting at Susan Wagner Performing Arts Center

"Today we reached the top of the mountain," said Susan E. Wagner High School principal Gary Giordano. "There's nothing like it on Staten Island, rare in New York City, and I would venture to say unique in the United States."

We were proud to join an excited gathering of students, faculty, administrators and elected officials on Friday, 10/21/16 for the ribbon-cutting at Susan Wagner Performing Arts Center. The celebration included inspirational remarks from Borough President James Oddo and Principal Gary Giordano, among others, about the unique qualities of the facility and how it must be used to its fullest. The school's wind ensemble commemorated the occasion with an original piece by renowned musician Michael Markowski.

di Domenico + Partners designed the Wagner Performing Arts Center as an addition to Wagner High School, set into a sloping site across from a nature preserve on Staten Island. The building establishes a physical and cultural edge on a neighborhood street across from the natural landscape. The performing arts spaces enhance the school’s award-winning Music and Theatre Arts program and include a black box theatre, dance studio, three music/theater classrooms and a stage craft classroom. While providing specialized spaces for students to develop their talents, the new design simultaneously addresses an overcrowding issue at the school with additional classrooms and academic spaces.

After over four years of design and construction, the building now springs to life with creativity.
