dD+P provided design services in collaboration with Rogers Marvel Architects for the creation of an easily reproducible street furniture solution that mitigates flooding and optimizes ventilation at subway stations and tunnels throughout New York City. Services provided included architecture, landscape architecture, code, and ADA compliance, as well as the maintenance and protection of pedestrian traffic. The design approach integrated new station and streetscape elements into existing station architecture by generating a modular system that can be implemented into subway ventilation grates. The street furniture serves as a functional flood barrier between the street and station environments. The project involved extensive coordination with local community boards, the NYC Planning and Art Commission, and NYCDOT.
