The Grand Avenue Bus Facility - Sustainable Features

The 500,000 SF Grand Avenue Bus Depot in Maspeth, Queens was designed to maximize energy efficiency, conserve materials and resources, and reduce ozone depletion for pollution prevention, among other sustainable features, and is the first "green" bus facility of its kind. It utilizes an abundance of high performance, energy saving features such as double-paned window glass and insulated exterior metal paneling, an invisible rainwater drain pipe system on the roof which siphons into a 200,000 gallon tank and provides 85% recycled water for the facilitiy's bus washing systems, and a specially designed heat recovery system from vehicle exhaust, reducing heating energy needs by nearly 50%. The project won the New York Construction Magazine Top Project Award.
